Long Runtime UPS Systems

Long Run Time UPS

There are three important considerations when it comes to selecting an Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS System that will provide long run time:

Firstly, the UPS System should have a sine-wave inverter. Square Wave systems should only be used for controlled shut down or ride-through for computer power supplies only. Prolonged exposure to square wave power waveforms can cause component degradation.

Secondly, the UPS should be of online double conversion topology. This is because online technology is designed to be active at all times and is therefore more reliable than inverter technologies that are only designed to be active some of the time.

Thirdly, the UPS should be capable of charging large attached battery banks and therefore should have a large capacity charger.

Fourthly, the unit should have matching extendible battery packs that are simple to install and expand. Well, this isn’t a true requirement which is why we said three things, as you can always add a bespoke high capacity battery, but it makes it simpler to have a range of manufacturer approved battery cabinets that have had the runtime calculated so you know from the outset what the runtime will be. It also gives the option of adding further battery packs in the future.

Remember that runtime is a factor of the connected load and the capacity of the attached battery. The more runtime you require, the more batteries you will need for any given load, it is as simple as that.

The KR-L-J series meets all the above requirements to provide hours of runtime from true matching daisy chainable battery cabinets. The KR1000L-J Extended Run UPS is currently in stock along with the B2U-36-18 battery cabinet containing 6x9Ah blocks.

For higher powered requirements we’ve got the KR3000L-J which uses the B2U-96-9 battery cabinet containing 8x9Ah blocks.
